Birth of the Gas Building Dining Room
The Gas Building Dining Room was established in 1933 and for roughly the last seventy years it has been open at the same location and style . At the time of its opening on the 8th floor of the Osaka Gas Building, the vast view from the windows facing the southeast, and the 'Real European-Style Dishes' as well attracted many people. Osaka Castle, then having been reconstructed by citizens’ donation in 1931, could be seen clearly beyond Midosuji Boulevard.

In 1933, city gas had just started to be supplied to homes as a convenient cooking and heating source. As a showcase for kitchens equipped with the latest gas appliances, the Gas Building Dining Room made a strong statement about modern city life and culture brought by city gas.

Menu at the time of opening
The menu of the Gas Building Dining Room at the time of its opening included a lunch composed of cheese toast, corn potage, chicken grilled on silver skewers, ice cream, bread, and coffee priced at one yen. It is said that this menu was very popular and long queue of customers filled the lobby
